Fast 8ms response time

8ms
One of the most important features for an LCD panel is the pixel response time. Response time refers to how long it takes pixels to turn from completely white to black and back again - the lower the milliseconds (ms), the faster the response time is. A fast 8 ms response time virtually eliminates any blurring and gives you smooth-motion action scenes.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
  • Minimum size= Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Nice tv for small rooms!, July 29, 2008
I purchased the Samsung LN22A450 after considering many other models in the Samsung lineup (the 19" version of this set as well as the 6 series version). I found that the 19" was still a bit too small for my liking, and the 6 series did not have enough improvements over this model to warrant the $90 increase in cost (the LN22A650 was on sale at a local store for $550). I ended up buying this television for $460 from amazon, and I am very happy with my decision. The tv is a perfect size for my small bedroom, and the picture quality is superior to many other brands that I have seen.

Pros:
-Built in digital tuner can be used to receive FREE HD channels via OTA broadcasts when connected to an antenna (almost all hdtv's have this, but it's an important feature to note if you don't want to pay for cable)
-PC input (VGA) can be used to connect a laptop for viewing streaming or downloaded internet content
-Picture quality (free HD channels are amazing, and upconverted DVDs are also great)
-Aesthetics of the tv set itself (it looks pretty slick when paired up with a matching upconverting dvd player, the

Cons:
-Only 1 HDMI input
-VGA instead of DVI input for PC
-SRS "surround sound" is disappointing; I just keep it turned off and turn up the volume

Despite the few complaints, I still give this product 5 stars, because samsung seems to have gotten all the more important details right with this tv. You can't really expect to get impressive sound from hidden speakers that are pointed downwards, though the quality is good enough for a small room. Highly recommended!

A bit more expected from this, September 17, 2008
I'll preface by saying I'm not a serious A/V person, I'm not up to speed on the latest and greatest technology - just a layman. My old CRT TV died, and I needed a new one. Wanted LCD for the lower power consumption and since nearly all of them are HD ready I wanted that too. From what I read, Samsung has the best LCD panels out there. The image on this one is extremely good, though in my opinion I wouldn't say excellent. At times it seems to blur momentarily. Colors are well represented. The features of the TV are nice, not much more than you'd find with older CRT though. This unit is very light weight and easily mounted to a wall. It doesn't get hot when on, which is nice. The remote is weird in its layout of the buttons. I guess it's a subjective thing, but the channel and volume up/down buttons are at the bottom of the remote, not the top and that's really annoying to me. Good thing I was able to get a universal to use with my cable box and DVD player. While I would otherwise give it a five star rating I will have to agree with many others about my one real gripe. The sound. The speakers are buried UNDER the TV, and point down. I have mine in a small bedroom, I don't have delusions of using this TV for a home theater but for four hundred bucks they could have put some better speakers on this thing. While the speakers are loud enough, they just don't sound all that great most of the time.

Great little tv, August 7, 2008
I agonized over this purchase since there were such mixed reviews. This tv is wonderful. It works perfectly and has a good picture. I don't know what people find wrong with the sound. I guess I don't have discerning ears.
